Ridley Scott needs 600 Aussies for new Alien movie

Hollywood director Ridley Scott’s next Alien movie will not just be filmed here, it will be made with an all-Australian crew.

Alien: Covenant, which will bring Michael Fassbender back to the role he played in Prometheus (2012), will hire 600 locals.

Ridley Scott: clashed with Russell Crowe.

Scott first directed actor Russell Crowe on the epic movie Gladiator, where they famously clashed. But according to the director they’ve since made up.

“And we’re now friends. On the first one we weren’t friends but by now we’re really, we’re kind of buddies, so I think I understand Aussies and the marvellous Cate Blanchett,” Scott said.

Filming for the next Alien blockbuster is set to begin in mid-March when the Oscar-nominated Fassbender is due to arrive.

Alien: Covenant will serve as a prequel to the original Alien movie from 1979, starring Sigourney Weaver, explaining who made the original alien and why.

Scott started scouting locations on Thursday and will need monumental forests and rocks, while the rest will be in the studio using CGI.

“Thank you for helping us out. I think I’m going to enjoy Sydney,” he said.
