Executives at America’s NBC network are reportedly worried about the drinking habits of their star late night host Jimmy Fallon.

According to a report in the New York Post, friends and colleagues grew concerned after the 41-year-old star sustained a series of bizarre injuries this year.

In June, Fallon severed his finger after tripping over a rug in his New York apartment, requiring a trip to the Intensive Care Unit and a six-hour surgery.

Soon after, Fallon posted on Instagram about chipping a tooth attempting to open a bottle of scar tissue repair gel.

Most recently, the father of one took a fall while receiving the Harvard Lampoon’s Elmer Award for Excellence in Humor, dropping a bottle of Jagermeister and landing on the broken glass.

According to gossip site Radar Online, NBC executives Bob Greenblatt and Lorne Michaels have had several conversations about Fallon’s behaviour.

“The NBC family adores Jimmy, but Bob is monitoring the situation. If he needs to intervene, it will be done,” an insider source said.

A source close to Fallon told the Post the high-rating host was handling the pressures of his Tonight Show gig with alcohol.

“There is so much money at stake, the pressure is enormous. [Besides doing the show daily], they’re looking for the next viral thing to hit. He has to do calls with affiliates and sponsors,” the source says.

“He has no outlet. He’s young. He’s still learning. You forget he hasn’t been doing this 10 years.”

There is plenty of footage on the internet of Fallon partying at various New York bars, including a clip from January this year of the star – seemingly inebriated – singing to an audience of patrons at gay bar in New York’s West Village.

In an official statement, an NBC spokesperson denied the network had concerns about Fallon’s drinking habits.

“Jimmy Fallon is a highly valued member of the NBC family who is both a tireless worker and an extraordinarily gifted performer,” the statement read.

“His dedication in putting on a great show each and every night is unparalleled, and that is reflected in the large amount of viewers who tune in — he frequently outrates the broadcast competition combined. We are proud of his accomplishments on and off camera and look forward to working with him for many years to come.”

Fallon’s contract with the network extends to 2021.
