Second series of The Bachelorette on the cards

Channel Ten has announced a new season of The Bachelorette, less than a day after the first season’s final episode aired.

Slated to be aired in 2016, the broadcaster said a new woman would return to look for love among a group of men competing to win her heart.

The first season of The Bachelorette finished last night, with Sam Frost picking Sasha Mielczarek from a field of 14 eager men.

It followed heartbreak in 2014, when then-Bachelor Blake Garvey proposed to Frost, only to dump her after the show aired, to be with one of the other contestants.

But Thursday’s nights episode was not without its controversies – airing network Channel Ten sought an eleventh hour court injunction against Daily Mail, after it published promotional images taken of the pair earlier in the day.

The photographs revealed the series winner three hours before the episode aired.

But it didn’t prevent the masses from tuning in – the final episode attracted 1.92 million viewers across the country glued to their screens.

It was a good foundation to build on in the future, Network Ten chief programming officer Beverley McGarvey said.

“We are very pleased that so many Australians embraced The Bachelorette Australia and wanted to be part of Sam’s journey to find true love,” she said.

“The response from viewers to both the show and Sam’s story has been extraordinary.

“We cannot wait to start production on the second series and give Australia another wonderful love story.”
