The next James Bond theme will be sung by…

In 2013, it was Adele who performed the theme song for the last James Bond film, Skyfall.

That sweeping song won Adele an Oscar and rocketed up the charts – and now another Brit singer will soon be enjoying the same success.

Sam Smith, known for crooning hits like Stay With Me, has recorded the theme song for this year’s 007 film instalment, Spectre.

The news was announced on Tuesday, with a release revealing Smith had recorded the single Writing’s On The Wall for the film.

The song will be available to purchase and stream on September 25 and is the first Bond theme song recorded by a British male solo artist since 1965.

In a post to his 4.7 million Instagram followers, Smith teased the announcement with a photo of his hand wearing a ring with the Spectre logo on it.

Those following Smith closely were confused by the black-and-white shot, as he had previously denied having anything to do with the film.

“People seem to think I’m doing it but I have no idea what’s going on. I’m being deadly serious. I think I would know by now. I heard Ellie Goulding was going to do it,” Smith told Capital FM in July.

Spectre, starring Daniel Craig as Bond, hits Australian theatres on November 12.

In case you forgot about it, here’s Adele nailing the Skyfall theme at the 2013 Academy Awards, where she went on to win a statue for Best Original Song.
