The Gallagher family give a whole new meaning to dysfunctional. Led by alcoholic patriarch Frank (played by the brilliant William H. Macy), the six kids are left to essentially raise themselves.

Silk

The three seasons of this BBC-produced legal drama document the daily lives of a group of barristers at a chambers in London.

Based on writer Peter Moffat’s real-life experiences at the Bar, it’s full of ethical dilemmas and juicy out-of-office drama. The show also stars the spunky Natalie Dormer, aka Game of Thrones’ fearless heroine Margaery Tyrell – another major drawcard.

In the same vein as other gripping Nordic noir dramas (they’re becoming a genre all their own), Wallander is the BBC adaptation of Swedish author Henning Mankell’s popular novels.

Kenneth Branagh plays police inspector Kurt Wallander, who investigates a string of disturbing murders in the small town of Ystad, Sweden.

BoJack Horseman

This whacky cartoon isn’t for everyone, but has a cult following of fans who love it for its shrewd pop culture commentary and quirkiness.

BoJack is a former television star living in Hollywood and dealing with his fading relevance with the help of his fellow half-human, half-animal friends.

Voiced by funny man Will Arnett, BoJack is a strangely recognisable figure, bringing to mind the likes of Matthew Perry and Kelsey Grammer.

This edgy superhero series scored five seasons and several BAFTA awards for its portrayal of five ragtag teenagers who discover they all possess supernatural powers during court-mandated community service.
