‘Finding it ironic’: Katy Perry slams Taylor Swift

Katy Perry is the latest celebrity to weigh in on a music world showdown of epic proportions.

Pop music’s biggest stars are currently engaged in a fierce battle of words on Twitter after female rapper Nicki Minaj called out discrimination in the music industry.

Citing her failure to score a nomination for Video of the Year at this year’s MTV Video Music Awards, Minaj said if she was a certain “type” of artist her song ‘Anaconda’ would have received more attention.

“If your video celebrates women with very slim bodies, you will be nominated for vid of the year,” Minaj wrote.

Swift, whose video for ‘Bad Blood’ broke records and scored a nomination, took this as a direct dig at her and responded on Twitter.

“I’ve done nothing but love & support you. It’s unlike you to pit women against each other. Maybe one of the men took your slot,” Swift wrote.

Now Katy Perry has joined the fray, criticising Taylor Swift for being a hypocrite.

“Finding it ironic to parade the pit women against other women argument about as one unmeasurably capitalizes on the take down of a woman…,” Perry tweeted to her millions of followers.

Many fans took this as a reference to Perry’s ongoing feud with Swift, which culminated in Swift’s hit ‘Bad Blood’ – reportedly about the pair’s fractured relationship.

Perry went on to criticise MTV for their failure to include Rihanna’s video for ‘B***h better have my money’ in their nominations.

“The real travesty is where is the shine for #BBHMMVideo when VMA eligibility period was 7/7/14-7/1/15 & that gem dropped 7/1…” Perry wrote.

Perry is not the first star to get involved in the debate.

Actor Aaron Paul, who starred as Jesse in Breaking Bad, tweeted: “Dear @taylorswift13 and @NICKIMINAJ, I love you both. How about we all get together and talk this thru? Coffee? Pancakes?? My treat.”

Kim Kardashian accidentally joined in the Twitter fight by tweeting “Imma let you finish but…” with a photo of her lying on the couch.

This was the line Kardashian’s husband Kanye West infamously used to interrupt Swift’s awards acceptance speech at the 2009 MTV VMAs.

Kardashian promptly deleted the tweet and claimed she had no idea what was going on in the music industry.

Even the typically reserved musician Moby weighed in, saying Minaj should just be happy she has a career.

“Far be it from me to criticise someone else’s pespective but like if you’re a musician and you’re making records in 2015 and you can make a living making music, you should just be pretty grateful,” he told TMZ.
