When Stephen Colbert ended his long run as host of the Colbert Report, he probably didn’t think time off would be so boring.

The comedian is desperate for ways to pass the time, if his hilarious new web series Lunch With Stephen is anything to go by.

The video series consists of food-related monologues punctuated by weird meals.

“What better way to bond with you guys than over lunch?” he says in the first post. “After all, these days a lot of people eat their lunch alone at their desk, watching videos like these.”

His first meal is a squashed omelette and salad sandwich, a large pizza, after dinner mints and baby back ribs.

The comedian then pulls out a note from his wife (actually written by himself).

“We just kind of met yesterday,” Colbert says in the second post. “But I need you to do me a favour.”

He tells viewers he owes money to dangerous people and that he used your name (the viewer) to deflect the threat.

Things get even weirder in the second episode as he starts the video in a beekeeper hat.

Colbert fans will be excited to know that there are three more episodes to come before the week ends Friday July 24th.

The five part series follows his interview with rap star Eminem on a tiny community television station.

Luckily, Colbert is soon to start as the host of the Late Show on CBS. It premieres in September this year.
