Taylor Swift has come out on top in her battle against Apple Music to win financial compensation for artists whose music is featured on the new streaming service.

In an open letter posted to her Tumblr page, the 25-year-old singer slammed the tech giant for failing to pay artists for their material over a three-month trial period for new users.

Swift called the decision not to reimburse artists for their content “shocking, disappointing, and completely unlike this historically progressive and generous company”.

Fear not, Miss Swift: it appears as though the powers that be at Apple were listening to you and they heard you loud and clear.

Eddy Cue, Apple’s senior vice president of Internet Software and Services, took to Twitter to announce Apple’s decision to pay artists during the trial period.

“#AppleMusic will pay artist for streaming, even during customer’s free trial period,” Cue wrote.

“We hear you @taylorswift13 and indie artists. Love, Apple.”

No word yet on whether this decision will impact on subscription fees, or what exactly these fees will be (Australian pricing will be released closer to launch).
