Style wrap: who wore what, and did they nail it?

The world of celebrity style is a competitive one.

With jam-packed schedules, paparazzi on every corner and thousands of adoring fans to please, the style stakes are high.

• ‘The Age of Adaline’ is the prettiest film of the year

In our weekly fashion wrap, we pay tribute to the sartorial efforts of Hollywood stars (or their stylists) by celebrating those who got it right and telling those who got it wrong, “better luck next time”.

Here’s how we saw it this week.

Best dressed

"The Age Of Adaline" New York Premiere - Arrivals

Blake Lively: After a hiatus from the red carpet to have her baby daughter, James, Lively has returned in good form to promote her new film The Age of Adaline. For the film’s New York premiere, the actress chose a stunning red Monique Lhullier gown, accessorised with a quirky fish-shaped clutch. An outfit made for a movie star.

US - TIME 100 GALA

Emma Watson: Leave it to the 25-year-old star to pull off asymmetrical, draped pants. Somehow, Watson looks classic and chic in this three-piece Dior ensemble. The red lip is the perfect finishing touch.
Performance Space 122 2015 Spring Gala Honoring Claire Danes

Claire Danes: The Homeland star looks sophisticated in wide leg pants and a figure-hugging top. The proportions are perfectly balanced and her sleek long bob and minimal make-up complement the fresh get-up.

"The Avengers: Age Of Ultron" - European Premiere - Red Carpet Arrivals

Sam and Aaron Taylor-Johnson: The actor and his director wife (of Fifty Shades of Grey fame) matched their red carpet looks for the premiere of The Avengers: Age of Ultron. Sam’s sparkly dress is a simple silhouette that flatters her fit physique, while Aaron’s dapper get-up is flawless from his velvet jacket to his patent leather shoes.

Worst dressed

"Tumbledown" Premiere - 2015 Tribeca Film Festival

Olivia Wilde: Although undeniably gorgeous in anything she wears, the new mum picked a shocker for a recent TriBeCa Film Festival Event in New York. The crazy print and billowing shape swamp Wilde’s tiny frame and detract from her natural beauty.

Rose Byrne: Oh, Rose. We love you, but there’s far too much going on in this lace and leather combo. A simpler top, sleeker skirt or less strappy shoes would have made the world of difference to this mish mash of fabrics and textures.

50th Academy Of Country Music Awards - Arrivals

Sofia Vergara and Reese Witherspoon: The stars of upcoming action-comedy Hot Pursuit hit the red carpet of the American Country Music Awards in matching disco ball dresses. The combined effect is dazzling in a bad way. Less is more, ladies.

"The Avengers: Age Of Ultron" - European Premiere - Red Carpet ArrivalsScarlett Johansson: While we love Johansson’s sassy pixie haircut, this heavy patterned Balmain jumpsuit (yes, those are pants!) is overwhelming on her petite frame and the proportions of the upper half make her look top heavy.

Who wore it better?

They may live on opposite sides of the planet, but it seems American comedian Amy Schumer and Aussie model Jennifer Hawkins share a similar taste in evening attire. Both chose this tuexdo-style mini dress from French designer Balmain.

While Hawkins opted to pair hers with loose, wavy hair and edgy netted heels, Schumer went for a more classic look.
