Legendary singer Elton John has declared war on the designers behind luxury brand Dolce & Gabbana after they described children conceived through IVF as “synthetic”.

In an interview last week, Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana said they were opposed to gay adoptions and supported “traditional” family models.

John, who has two sons with husband David Furnish, called for a boycott of the fashion house on his Instagram page on Saturday.

“How dare you refer to my beautiful children as ‘synthetic’,” John wrote in a post that has attracted more than 11,000 likes.

“And shame on you for wagging your judgemental little fingers at IVF – a miracle that has allowed legions of loving people, both straight and gay, to fulfil their dream of having children.

“Your archaic thinking is out of step with the times, just like your fashions. I shall never wear Dolce and Gabbana ever again.”

In an interview with Italian outlet Panoramathe openly-gay designers said, “Life has a natural course, there are things that must not be changed”.

“The only family is the traditional one … No chemical offsprings and rented uterus”.

“You are born to a mother and a father – or at least that’s how it should be,” Dolce added.

“I call children of chemistry, synthetic children. Uteri [for] rent, semen chosen from a catalog.”

The hashtag “BoycottDolceGabbana”, which was started by John, has been used on social media by celebrities and same-sex parents to slam the mens’ comments.

Singer Ricky Martin – who himself has two sons born via IVF –  told the designers to “wake up”.

In a tweet, he told the two men their voices were “too powerful to be spreading so much hate”.

American Horror Story creator Ryan Murphy, who has a son with husband David Miller, said Dolce and Gabbana’s views were “horrifying” and described their designs as “as ugly as their hate”.
