Rapper Afroman, best known for hit song ‘Because I Got High’, has been arrested and charged with assault for punching a female fan on stage.

The 40-year-old knocked the woman to the ground on Tuesday night after she invaded the stage and began ‘grinding’ on him – dancing and rubbing up against him suggestively – during a Mississippi concert.

The woman managed to pick herself up and appeared to be in shock as the rapper, whose real name is Joseph Foreman, continued playing.

Police stopped the show, escorted Foreman off stage and arrested him outside the venue, charging him with assault.

Foreman apologised on Facebook and told celebrity website TMZ he was on his way to anger management rehab.

The rapper said he was frustrated before the show and became even more aggravated when a man in the crowd heckled him.

“I want to apologise for my actions… it was wrong,” Foreman said.

Foreman said he asked the woman to leave the stage and thought the person behind him was the man who had been heckling him.
