Stephen Fry roasts ‘evil, maniac’ God on Irish TV

Atheist Stephen Fry has given an Irish television show more than a piece of his mind when asked what he would say to God if he happened to make it to heaven.
The 57 year-old British comedian and actor told television presenter Gay Byrne, on the philosophical show The Meaning of Life, that, if there is in fact a God, he would have no reservations in telling him he was “evil” and “capricious”.

The recently married Fry was pressed to speak about God, given his hero Oscar Wilde’s conversion to Catholicism on his deathbed.
“Why should I respect a capricious, mean minded, stupid God who creates a world so full of injustice and pain?” Fry asks in the televised interview.
“I would say: bone cancer in children? What’s that all about?
“How dare you create a world where there’s so much misery that’s not our fault.
“It’s utterly, utterly evil.”
Fry says that if God actually invented the universe, then God was “manic”.
“Because the God who created this universe, if it was created by God, is quite clearly a maniac, utter maniac. Totally selfish. We have to spend our life on our knees thanking him? What kind of god would do that?” Fry says.
