Hollywood sex symbol and new dad Ryan Gosling has brought January cheer to women everywhere when he made a surprise cameo at the AACTA Awards on Thursday.

Russell Crowe was presenting the best supporting actress award live from Los Angeles, where he is filming The Nice Guys with Gosling, when the US star appeared on screen ‘spontaneously’ and started chatting to his co-star.

What followed was meet-cute banter between the stars, including Gosling congratulating Crowe for his “win” and then looking distressed when he thought he’d lost.

“You lost?” Gosling asked. “You were robbed.”

Crowe bit back: “Ladies and Gentlemen, you might not recognise him with his clothes on, Ryan Gosling.”

Gosling also showed off his Australian accent and told Crowe he was an honorary Australian because he had lived in New Zealand for two years.

“I’m sweet as, bro,” Gosling quipped.

Crowe’s film The Water Diviner won joint best picture at the AACTA’s with the cult horror hit The Babadook.

He missed out on nominations for best director and best actor.

The Nice Guys is expected to be released in 2016.
