Casting rumours swirl for classic 1980s remakes

2015 is the year of the 1980s remake, with Hollywood alive with casting rumours for two of Tinseltown’s most iconic blockbusters Indiana Jones and Ghostbusters.

The heirs apparents to the bullwhip and the proton pack have reportedly already been anointed. Now we have to wait to find out what’s fact and fiction.

Guardians of the Galaxy star Chris Pratt will be the next galavanting archaeologist, if an exclusive report in Deadline based purely on rumour and conjecture is to be believed.

Indiana Jones was made famous by Harrison Ford, who also had a leading role in the Star Wars franchise, which is also getting a big-budget makeover. Pratt already has a big role alongside Denzel Washington in this year’s The Magnificent Seven, which is also a remake of the classic 1960s star-studded Western. You get the picture.

Another rumour, which has more traction, is that Melissa McCarthy will lead an all-female revival of cult-classic Ghostbusters. The popular comedy actress could be joined by Kristen Wiig, Kate McKinnon and Leslie Jones to kick some serious ectoplasm.

Bridesmaids director Director Paul Feig, who outed himself as the director of the new Ghostbusters in October, tweeted out the all-female cast on Wednesday.

Good on you Hollywood for keeping our childhoods alive. We know you’ll write something original one day.
