Hollywood stars have used the Golden Globes red carpet as a stage to offer their support for the victims of Charlie Hebdo attacks in Paris.

George Clooney, Helen Mirren, Diane Kruger, Patricia Arquette and Kathy Bates were just some of the big name stars to hold a Je Suis Charlie sign on the Globes red carpet.

Actor George Clooney wears a “Je suis Charlie” button.

The phrase has become a universal sign of solidarity in the wake of the attack on the offices of French satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo by brothers Said and Cherif Kouachi.

Clooney walked the red carpet with a Je Suis Charlie badge attached to the left breast of his suit. His wife, human rights lawyer Amal Clooney, attached a Je Suis Charlie pin to her Dior clutch.

Mirren, Kruger and Arquette held up paper signs reading “Je Suis Charlie”. Mirren also attached a pen to her shoulder – a symbol of respect for the fallen cartoonists a show of support for freedom of speech and expression.

Kathy Bates, meanwhile, had Je Suis Charlie printed on the back of her mobile phone.

Presenter Jared Leto also paid tribute to those in Paris before presenting the award for Best Supporting Actress in a Motion Picture to Patricia Arquette for Boyhood.

The actors’ red carpet statements come amidst a global outpouring of support for the 17 people killed in the French terrorist attacks.

Millions of people took part in unity marches over the weekend, including world leaders of Britain, Germany, Israel, Palestine and the European Union.
