They may be his trademark look, but, believe it or not, the signature sunglasses perpetually perched on Alex Perry’s head do occasionally make it onto his face.

“The glasses do come off the head sometimes!” the designer laughs.

“I wear contacts a lot and usually at the end of the day I’ll put glasses on over my contacts to give my eyes a boost because they get really tired.”

Thus, the couture designer, known for his feminine, corseted red carpet gowns, has the perfect amount of personal experience to help him design a range of glasses for Specsavers.

He also knows his stuff when it comes to picking the right glasses for each person.

“There is no failsafe style, but aviators do look great on pretty much everyone,” Perry says.

“You have to try things on. Take a photo of yourself because that provides you with a different perspective.”

When it comes to making a statement with eyewear, the designer and Australia’s Next Top Model judge suggests doing the unexpected.

“I love providing a contrast, like wearing a classic shape with messy beach hair.”

Just like Perry’s elegant clothing, his glasses designs are unique, glamorous and timeless. His latest designs top off an awesome year for the Australian style icon, who has been busy dressing overseas starlets.

“Dressing [supermodel] Gigi Hadid for the Melbourne Cup this week was a highlight,” Perry says.

“We dressed Kendall Jenner recently which was fun because she’s so young and fresh. We also dressed Sandra Bullock – that was really exciting. “

“And, of course, I’ve also done a couple of big magazine covers which was really special for me. I’m very lucky. “
