British rocker Bob Geldof is reportedly getting in touch with a host of musicians to recruit them for his next charitable project.

The former Boomtown Rats star spearheaded the Band Aid charity single Do They Know It’s Christmas? in 1984 and is in the process of recruiting big-name musicians for an upcoming project, which is thought to coincide with the 30th anniversary of the song’s release in December.

A source tells Britain’s The Sun newspaper, “Bob started casually getting in touch with people … A few big names were very surprised to see he had emailed them just asking if they would be interested in being part of a project … He didn’t make any formal requests, but he wanted to gauge an idea of who was potentially available.

“No one knows exactly what he has in mind … but naturally rumour is rife that he wants to commemorate the 30th anniversary of Band Aid … Bob feels very passionately about the Ebola crisis, so it’s likely this could be the cause he wants to help this time around.”

Two other versions of Do They Know It’s Christmas? have been released since the original, in 1989 and 2004.

The Ebola virus has killed more than 4,500 people in West Africa since the crisis began.
