Martha Stewart: Gwyneth Paltrow should ‘be quiet’

Lifestyle guru Martha Stewart has lambasted Gwyneth Paltrow’s foray into the lifestyle industry in a highly critical rant in this month’s Porter magazine.

According to the New York Post, the businesswoman told the magazine that Paltrow “just needs to be quiet”.

Paltrow, an Oscar winner and mother of two, runs her own lifestyle website Goop and often draws comparisons to Stewart.

“She’s a movie star. If she were confident in her acting, she wouldn’t be trying to be Martha Stewart,” the 73-year-old said.

Stewart, who spent five months in jail in 2004 for obstructing justice, didn’t stop her rant there.

She went on to denounce Facebook COO Cheryl Sandberg’s bestselling book Lean In, saying it was wasting “too much time”.

“Isn’t ‘leaning in’ spending a lot of time? . . . I think being entrepreneurial is something women should strive for, rather than working up the corporate ladder.”

She also criticised Netflix hit series Orange is the New Black, deeming lead actress Taylor Schilling the “wrong choice” to play female prison inmate Piper Kerman.

“They could have done that so much better. That girl [Schilling] is not good enough, the lead actress,” Stewart said. “I met the real Piper. She was in prison either the same time or after me, and I talked to her about it.”

In regards to young actress and close friend Blake Lively, who was inspired by Stewart to start her own lifestyle site, Stewart preferred to stay quiet and let her colleague do the talking.

“I don’t get the sense she’s credible,” Martha Stewart senior vice president Kevin Sharkey said of Lively. “She’s enthusiastic, but she’s not credible.”
