Nicole Kidman’s family are in shock at the news that the Oscar winner’s father has died in Singapore after reportedly falling.

It’s believed Dr Anthony Kidman, 75, was in the country visiting younger daughter Antonia and his six grandchildren.

The Kidman family is shocked and needs privacy, Nicole Kidman’s publicist said.

Reports suggested Dr Kidman had died after a fall, but the spokesman did not comment.

A source familiar with the case told AFP Antony Kidman died in a state-run hospital on Friday.

Singapore police said an elderly man had died at the hospital, but did not give his name.

They added that the “unnatural death” would be investigated.

Dr Kidman was a director of health psychology at the University of Technology Sydney (UTS), where he worked for 43 years, and a clinical psychologist at Sydney’s Royal North Shore Hospital.

“It is with great sadness that we learn of Dr Tony Kidman’s sudden passing,” UTS Professor Attila Brungs told WENN.

“Tony will be missed by all at UTS. Our thoughts are with his family at this time.”

Dr Kidman was honoured with an Order of Australia in 2005 for his work as a researcher and as a health practitioner.

Nicole Kidman, 47, most recently starred in Grace of Monaco, a biopic of the American film actress who became the princess of Monaco.

Kidman won an Academy Award for her portrayal of author Virginia Woolf in The Hours in 2002.

TV presenter and author Antonia Kidman lives in Singapore with her banker husband, Craig Marran.

Neither Nicole nor Antonia Kidman have yet to make a statement about their father’s death.
