Almost a million Australians tuned in last night to watch what is anticipated to be the final episode of beloved drama Offspring.

The hit show’s season five finale was the second most watched non-news program on Wednesday night, securing an audience of 992,000, according to the OzTam overnight ratings.

Network Ten is yet to confirm whether or not Wednesday’s episode was the last ever for the show, but many media commentators have said that it is time for the program to end.

The season five finale ended with protagonist Nina left to care for her daughter Zoe and grapple with the one year anniversary of her partner Patrick’s untimely death.

Celebrities like Mia Freedman and Carrie Bickmore took to Twitter to express their feelings about the emotional season ending.

Reality renovation show The Block Glasshouse on the Nine Network was again the no.1 non-news program with an audience of 1.090 million viewers.

Nine News was the overall top rating program with 1.198 viewers, followed by Seven news with an audience of 1.108 million.
