Breaking Bad ‘most binge watched’

Binge Watching, according to US pay TV service Tivo, is when a person watches three or more episodes of a TV show on any given day.

Tivo has released the results of a binge-watching study of 15,000 subscribers to find out what, when and with who they watch television.

Breaking Bad came in at number one as most binge-watched show in history, with 35 per cent of respondents saying they had binged on the show in the past year, followed by House of Cards and Game of Thrones at 29 per cent and 25 per cent respectively.

Many of the people downloading Breaking Bad on the TV service watched the show in bulk ahead of the 2013 season finale.

Of the 15,000 people surveyed, a whopping 89 per cent said they had binge-watched at least once in the previous year.

Tivo also found that 25 per cent of hour-long programs were being binge watched and most people were doing it alone.

Dramas and crime shows were the most popular genres to binge on, followed by reality TV, sitcoms and home improvement.

The super binge watchers were the viewers who watched entire seasons in a single week, coming in at a sizeable 14 per cent of subscribers.

The trend is not US specific, with Australians being early adopters of the love of watching their favourite TV shows in one sitting.
