Gwyneth Paltrow has told a tech conference how she is wounded by anonymous online haters.

Paltrow, who owns digital site Goop, said that hurtful comments feel like “the scabs from your high school wounds being ripped off on a daily basis”.

Paltrow was programmed to speak on the “objectification and dehumanisation” of anonymous internet comments.

“Yes, it does worry me, for the development of my kids and the next generation, that people can be so cruel without experiencing the consequences of being so cruel face to face.”

The actress was scheduled to speak at the Re/code conference in California for five minutes but went on for 15 minutes.

The 41-year-old has been criticised for referring to the end of her marriage as a “conscious uncoupling” and for claiming that non-celebrity mums have it easier than her.

Paltrow said she understands why people attack celebrities online because “we’re annoying,” but says she’s clearly not over it, according to a New York Post report.

“When you’ve been made fun of and excoriated and dragged through the mud and lied about for 20 years in front of the world … you actually realise it’s not about you,” she told the conference.

“Anyone in any field who has their head rise above a poppy in the field, they get their heads chopped off.”
