Underdogs in surprise win on The Block

Underdogs Chantelle Ford and Steve O’Donnell have won series eight of The Block Fans vs Favs with their apartment selling for $2.47 million, biggest sale in the show’s history, and taking home $736,000 in prize money.

Their apartment was the biggest seller at Dux House in Albert Park, selling for $636,000 over the reserve which was set at $1,834,000.

First time contestants Ford and O’Donnell won an additional $100,00 for making the biggest profit.

Each of the four couples cleared their reserve by more than $500,000.

block winnersThe Melbourne couple, a milliner and chimney sweep, had been fearful of not meeting their reserve price, one of the highest of the four.

“I think the underdog story is just a tried-and-true story and thankfully dreams can come true and this is proof,” O’Donnell said after the surprise win.

“I think for the moment we can just take this in and say anything is possible and if people want to have a crack at anything in life you can.”

The couple outsold second-placed Alisa and Lysandra Fraser, third-placed Kyal and Kara Demmrich, and fourth-placed Dale Vine and Brad Cranfield.

The controversial Adelaide Fraser twins came second with their apartment selling for $2.375 million, the lowest of the four properties, but $616,000 above its reserve.

The twins had won $395,000 in The Block Sky High last year, meaning they had pocketed more than $1 million from their time on the block.

“Win or lose, it’s paid off,” Alisa said.
