Ed Sheeran serenades sick fan minutes before her death

Ed Sheeran fulfilled a teenager’s last wish on Sunday, performing a private concert for her over the phone in the minutes before her death.

Triona Priestley, a 15-year-old Dublin girl, had been battling cystic fibrosis since childhood and was a huge fan of the 23-year-old English singer-songwriter.

When her health worsened, friends and family enlisted the help of social media to make contact with her idol, creating the hashtag #SongForTri. The tag quickly began trending and caught the attention of Sheeran’s management, who contacted Ms Priestley’s friend to arrange a call, according to People magazine.

Sheeran performed the teenager’s favourite song, Little Bird, to her over the phone as she lay in hospital surrounded by her family.

Following the serenade, Ms Priestley quietly passed away in the company of family and friends.

According to the Daily MailMs Priestley’s friend, Lucy Hanlon, shared details of her last moments on her Facebook page, writing “Ed rang Triona and personally sang Little Bird to her as she took her last breaths…Triona left us listening to her idol surrounded by all the people who loved her. People’s respect is incredible. We would like to thank everyone.”
