Jennifer Lawrence cuts hair: cue hysteria

It’s no secret that Jennifer Lawrence breaks new ground with every move she makes.

This week, she will no doubt have sent flocks of young girls to their hairdressers requesting the “Jennifer” – and we’re not talking about the Aniston variety.

On Thursday, J.Law joined the likes of Pamela Anderson and Kristin Chenoweth, debuting a radical pixie cut on her Facebook page.

While the reactions to the chop have been mixed, Lawrence herself appears to be taking a laid back approach to her new look.

The actress, who has been taking to social media with fellow Hunger Games: Catching Fire cast mates to promote the film, joked during a Google+ hangout that she did it,

“Just to make Francis (Catching Fire director Francis Lawrence) mad!”

She later shared the real reason for her haircut during a Yahoo! fireside chat, telling the audience,

“I cut it earlier, and it grew to that awkward gross length and I kept putting it back in a bun, and I was like, ‘well, I don’t want to do this,’ so I just cut it off. It couldn’t get any uglier.”

Clearly aware of her blockbuster franchise commitments, Lawrence playfully added,

“This isn’t how Katniss is going to look in the next movies, don’t worry. I’m wearing a wig.”

Catching Fire‘s social media press tour is another groundbreaking move from Lawrence and her cast members, who are choosing to promote the film by taking audience questions during live internet broadcasts. The 23 year-old star has remained her refreshingly candid self during these informal chats, happily sharing her behind-the-scenes antics with fans.

When asked about their favourite on-set memory during the Google+ Hangout, Lawrence’s co-star Josh Hutcherson chose the first day he met fellow cast member Woody Harrelson, saying “We were just running around like total idiots while you guys were trying to film.”

With her trademark honesty, Lawrence added,

“We were drunk. That was fun. That was the first time I’ve ever drank at work.”

Unsurprisingly, this just makes us love her even more.
